What are ceramic braces?

Ceramic braces are the same size and shape as metal braces, except that the brackets are tooth coloured to help make a fixed brace look less noticeable. This type of brace straightens teeth without compromising the way you look during your treatment.

Clear ceramic braces are a popular choice for teens who may feel self-conscious about metal braces and adults who want their braces to be less noticeable during treatment. This treatment is available for private patients, however not on the NHS.

Ceramic fixed braces are strong, lightweight, comfortable and fixed to the front of your teeth. You’ll hardly notice they are there. Ask us for more details.

How are ceramic braces fitted?

Each individual bracket is placed directly onto the tooth. The cement is then set by an ultra-violet light to keep the brackets in place. We then attach the archwire which is shaped so your teeth will be gradually nudged into line. The archwire will be tooth coloured but in some cases we may need to use silver coloured wire, if required for certain tooth movements.
